Brig. General Hugh A. Ward
This is the original drawing of "The Rebel", the art work on Hugh's P-47 Thunderbolt. ![]() Welcome This page is dedicated to Hugh Augustus
Ward. The boy that climbed into a cockpit and became an
inspiration to all who knew him. Hugh was born in Georgia in 1921
and died in Charlotte, NC in 2006. He touched the lives of all who
knew him. This page is more than a remembrance of his life, it is
History as he lived it. My hope is that over time I will be able to
include all of his scrap books and memorabilia on this site for those who
knew him and others who may just be interested in WWII or Military
History. This is a work in progress and it has only just
begun.
Hugh made a set of scrap books during the
course of his life to journal his career in pictures and other
memorabilia. There are 10 scrap books in this set and many of them
have additional letters, magazines and other items in them. I will
try to make the digital versions posted here as complete as
possible. The links below are scanned images of Hugh's
first scrap book. The scanned image is of everything
in the scrap book except blank pages. This first scrap
book is an actual WWII German scrap book Hugh carried out of the prison
camp. For this reason I also included all of the original German
content as it is in the real scrap book.
