Radon is a RADIOACTIVE gas that is formed by the natural decay of Radium.  Radon is emitted from the soil all over the globe.  Some regions are more likely to emit Radon such as areas high in granite or shale but these are not the only factors.  Radon also has a higher concentration in ground water than in surface water.  This is also a product of the Radium decaying in rocks and the Radon gas coming in contact with ground water.

There is a map below showing the average Radon levels found in the U.S.  The map is not to be used to determine where to purchase a home or whether or not it should be tested.  According to the US Surgeon General and EPA ALL homes should be tested.  Elevated levels can be found in all areas of the map.   Nearly one in fifteen homes in the US have high levels of Radon and 21,000 lung cancer deaths are attributes to Radon yearly according to the EPA’s statistics.

Carolina HomeInspect is dedicated to the safety of you and your family. We provide Radon testing with results from a NELAP accredited lab.  We can test for both air and water quality.   Don’t take a chance, have your new or existing home tested.
